EXPLORING ENGLAND!

England is the largest nation in the United Kingdom, along with Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.

With London being its capital and the most diverse metropolitan area in the UK. England is famously known for its iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abby, and the London Eye.

While London may be the center of attention for most tourists, England has loads more to offer with its beautiful green countryside, coastline towns, and age-old heritage.

THINGS TO SEE & DO

While there is certainly a lot to see and do in the city of London to keep any tourist busy, there are also endless possibilities to explore just outside. Below are a few places you might not want to miss.

White Cliffs of Dover
Brighton Pier
Buckingham Palace
London Bridge
Snowdonia
London Eye

Roman Baths

BEST TIME TO VISIT

I feel you can visit England any time of year, although sunny days in England are quite a treat as the weather tends to be more on the cooler side most of the time.

Overall I recommend visiting in late Autumn (Sept – Nov) when the weather is still warm, there isn’t much rain, and the leaves are starting to change.

Winter in England can also be an enjoyable time to visit, the city is a little quieter, and the countryside looks like a snowy winter wonderland.

If you plan on visiting during the Winter holidays, then you’re certainly in for a treat. The streets are lined with pretty festive lights and fun Christmas markets. For some seriously good treats, make sure you drop by Harrods Food Hall this place has everything, including luxury wines, rich chocolates, and tasty baked goods.

The most common means of transport in England are Britain’s roads and train system. London’s cabs & tube are the easiest and best way to explore the city.

BUDGET TIPS

Suggested hotel budget  80-158 GBP Note: This is a suggested budget assuming you’re staying in a mid-range hotel, you can always lower this number. Budget hotel prices typically range from 37 – 63 GBP However, if you stay in fancier accommodation or eat out more often, expect this to be higher.

LONDON’S TOP ATTRACTIONS

London Eye

Britain’s London Eye is considered to be the largest observation wheel in Europe. It is located on the south bank of the Thames River in London and rises to a staggering 443 ft above the ground.

The wheel offers some of the most spectacular views of the city, and the journey normally lasts around 30 mins, so you can really soak up the pretty sights. My top tip is to book the “skip the line ticket” so you can board any time of the day.

Changing of the Guards

One of London’s most iconic top attractions includes the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. The ceremony starts at 11 am every day and lasts for around 45 mins.

The best spot to watch is either at the mall, the main road approaching Buckingham Palace from St. James’s Palace, or the Buckingham Palace gates. This beautiful display of music and marching is certainly a must-see when in Britain, and it’s also free to watch.

Westminster Abbey

Famously known for its royal weddings is London’s Westminster Abbey Church, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter. It was founded in 960AD and is a working christen church to this day.

Discover over 10 centuries of British history, which includes some of Britain’s oldest paintings. The Abbey is open for tours daily and offers services at certain times of the day.

Houses of Parliament & Elizabeth Tower

Nothing screams “London” more than the famous iconic clock tower known as Big Ben. The Houses of Parliament and Elizabeth Tower (aka Big Ben) is located at the Palace of Westminster and stands higher than 314 ft (96m)

The name Big Ben is actually referred to the massive bell that is inside the clock that chimes on the hour, followed by the quarter bells that sound every 15 mins.
