No matter the season, Virginia Beach is the perfect place for a weekend getaway, that everyone will enjoy.
Searching for your next beach getaway? See below for my review at the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel in VA Beach.
The Location
The Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel is located right off Virginia Beach’s boardwalk towards the north end of Atlantic Avenue, just off 42nd street.
Virginia Beach stretches as far as 35 miles long, making it the world’s longest stretch of beach. It’s home to three major beaches namely Virginia Beach, Chesapeake Bay Beach, and the most popular, Sandbridge Beach.
VA Beach is roughly a 3hr and 30min drive from Washington DC, you basically follow the I95 South, which takes you pretty much straight there.
Located adjacent to the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel is the iconic Caliver Hotel and Beach Club. I definitely recommend checking out this stunning hotel and its luxury amenities if you can. This newly-restored hotel boasts an indoor splash pool, private beach club, relaxation spa, distillery & high dining experience.
About the property
The Marriott Oceanfront Hotel is a brand new hotel in Virginia Beach, it recently opened mid-last year and is an added addition to The Cavalier Resort, which also includes the Historic Cavalier Hotel and Beach Club.
The 24 story Marriott hotel features a 24-hour fitness center, indoor & outdoor swimming pool, and plenty of large terraces to unwind & relax. The hotel has a total of 305 guest rooms and suites, all complete with stunning ocean views.
The Lobby
The lobby and adjacent seating rooms are beautifully designed & decorated. I love the relaxed modern beach vibes and the individual seating nooks off to the right.
There’s no shortage of photo ops here that’s for sure, the seating nook with the floating chair was my fave. The lobby area also features a wall plant mural right as you walk in and a gift shop to the left.

The Rooms
The Marriott Oceanfront Hotel offers many different rooms & suites. We stayed in the ocean view king room with a balcony, which had an amazing side view of the ocean, beachfront & terraces.
Just to note* we booked the “ocean view” room, which is different from the “oceanfront” room, which I didn’t realize when booking. It wasn’t a big deal as we still had an amazing view from our room however if you want a complete full view of the ocean make sure you book the “oceanfront” room.
The king room with balcony was fitted with a small kitchenette, which included a coffee maker & mini-fridge. A king-size bed, which was super comfy, a desk & sitting area, and a bathroom with a full shower.
Restaurants
The Marriott Oceanfront Hotel has two restaurants, the Tulu Seaside Bar & Grill loacted on the ground level and Orion’s Roof loacted on the 23rd floor of the hotel.
Tulu Seaside Bar & Grill
Tulu Seaside Bar and Grill is an oceanfront dining restaurant located within the Marriott Hotel. Open for breakfast, lunch & dinner Tulu is a great go-to spot to soak up those oceanfront views whilst enjoying your smashed avocado on toast.
In a hurry? Tulu also has Tulu to-go, you can order certain meals on the menu directly to-go or to your suite.
I ate the Tulus a few times, for breakfast one morning I had the eggs benedict, with a side of potatoes which was quite nice.
For dinner one night I had the sesame grilled salmon and for a go-to lunch one day I ordered the avocado on toast with a maca madness smoothie. Overall I found the service to be great, the meals were very creative, however, I did find it to be a bit pricy for what it was.
Orions Roof
Orion’s Roof is located on the rooftop of the Marriott Hotel offering guests panoramic ocean views and fine Asian dining. Orion’s Roof is open for lunch & dinner, and also offers private dining experiences. All bookings and reservations are required and made through Opentable.
If you’re looking for nearby dinner options, then I highly recommend checking out Orion’s Roof on the 23rd floor of the hotel. We had dinner here one night and had a wonderful experience, the food, the drinks, the service, and the views all were amazing.
I do recommend booking in advance tho, we tried to book on the day and they were fully booked out.

The Pools
The Marriott Hotel features two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. The indoor pool is right in front of the outdoor pool that overlooks the oceanfront & boardwalk.
There were plenty of chairs and pool lounges for guests to enjoy, I didn’t find this area too busy at all, however, saying that I did visit during the winter so this might be a different story in the summer months. Both pools looked like a great spot to relax after a long day at the beach.
Amenities
The amenities and resort features were great and are certainly worth making use of. I did use the fitness center, I found it to be quite spacious and it had plenty of gym equipment to choose from, which I like as most hotels lack this and only provide the basics like a treadmill.
Other hotel services/amenities included room service (which I took full advantage of) 24hr desk service, wi-fi, valet dry-cleaning, car rental, etc. There’s also on-site parking at the Marriott, which is $20 a day for hotel guests.
Activities
Looking for things to do besides working your tan? VA Beach offers plenty of outdoor adventures & attractions worth seeing & doing as well as a few standout museums and historical sights. Check out below for some fun activities to do in Virginia Beach.
Bike the Boardwalk
Enjoy a ride down VB’s famous boardwalk. You’ll find many vendors offering bike and surrey rentals right along the oceanfront. Discover the boardwalks many outdoor attractions, sculptures, and delicious seafood restaurants. For the perfect photo op, don’t miss King Neptune a 24-foot bronze statue located right off 31st Street.
Pier Fishing
The Virginia Beach Pier is a highlight for all anglers at any skill level, plus it’s the perfect place to enjoy the oceanfront views. Fishing off the pier costs $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. You can also hire all your tackle and bait from the bait shop which is also located on the pier.
Visit the Aquarium & Marine Science Center
Explore the underwater habitat at the Virginia Beach Aquarium & Marine Science Center. Experience hands-on marine exhibits, including horseshoe crabs and stingray touch pools.
The aquarium also has 2 larger pavilions that house many of their turtles, sharks, and komodo dragons. It also features a nature trail with an oyster reef, specialty boat trips & an adventure park.
Enjoy afternoon cocktails at the Calivier Hotel
Relax and unwind at the Raleigh Room in the Caliver Hotel. This newly renovated southern lounge features a classic, yet modern style decor making it the perfect social hub in the evening to enjoy a few cocktails.
Hiking Trails at First Landing State Park
Enjoy the many activities & hiking trails at First Landing State Park. There are 9 trails to choose from which cover more than 19 miles of native bushland. The park is located on Cape Henry, just north of Virginia Beach.
Shuffleboard at the Beachside Social
Grab a cocktail or beer and get your game on at the Beachside Social for a few rounds of shuffleboard. This place is so vibrant and fun! Great for big groups, kids, families, couples, everybody. If shuffleboard ain’t your thing, they also have bocce & board games as well.
COVID-19 Regulations
In regards to Covid-19, I did find the hotel to be quite safe, they had many signs located around the hotel stating their rules and changes in regards to reducing the spread.
You were required to were a mask in all areas of the hotel, such as the lobby, seating areas, etc, All staff that I came into contact with wore masks. They also had hand sanitizer stations located in the main areas of the hotel as well.
If you do visit I highly recommend taking the proper precautions we stayed during the week in off-peak times such as the winter so there weren’t many hotel guests around and with plenty of seating areas, lawn space, and large beach area social distancing wasn’t really a problem.
Overall Thoughts
I’ve stayed in quite a few Virginia Beach Hotels along the oceanfront and I can honestly say that the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront would have to be my favorite hotel I’ve stayed in so far. The overall vibe, modern chic interior, the hospitality, it was all amazing.
I absolutely loved my experience at the Marriott, I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to my family and friends. I would also love to try the Caliver Hotel & Beach Club if I could on my next visit to Virginia Beach.
It just looks incredibly dreamy! I hope you found this Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront review helpful. What’s your favorite hotel you’ve stayed in along the oceanfront in VA Beach? I would love to know.
