What to Pack For a Winter Getaway
Packing for a winter trip can be quite challenging. Just the thought of having to stuff big bulky coats and sweaters in my suitcase can make me a little crazy! Based on my recent winter vacations I have found the key to packing for cold winter climates is to focus on layering and mixing your outfits pieces. Stay cozy and stylish on your next winter vacation with my go-to guide on what to pack for a winter getaway.

for a winter getaway!

The term "winter" can be quite broad to some in terms of what destination you are planning to visit. Some places can be more colder than others with below freezing temperatures and mountains of snow. Whereas some may only be cool with the odd rainy day or two.
I always find it's best to check the weather forecast in advanced so you have a better idea on what to pack for that destination. Check out below my favorite winter styles & inspiration plus handy packing tips when it comes to packing for that perfect winter getaway.
WINTER GETAWAY PACKING LIST!
2x Thick Coats
1x Down Jacket
3x Sweaters
3x Pants/Denim
3x Layering Tops
1x Thermal Set
2x Winter Boots
2x Hats
2x Scarfs
1x Gloves
Socks
*List can be adjusted according to length of stay.
THICK COATS / DOWN JACKETS
Thick coats are certainly an essential for any winter getaway. Depending on the length of stay and climate I would normally take 2x coats. I like to pack one down jacket and one thicker coat.
Handy hack! If you find your coats are to bulky you can always put them in a compact bag. I personally like to use vacuum storage bags as they can really compress your coats and save a lot more room in your suitcase.
SWEATERS / KNITWEAR
Oversized warm knits are my go to in the winter! They keep me warm no matter where I go. I usually pack 1x neutral like a beige, cream or tan and then 2x prints to work in with my neutral coat.
PANTS / DENIM
I like to mix my bottoms and take both pants and denim. My go to denim in winter are ALWAYS my black skinny jeans they just go with everything. I will then find a pair of pants or denim that can mix & match my sweaters and coats. Lately I have really been into white wide leg jeans/pants they look super cute with either a bold colored sweater or a neutral cream sweater.
LAYERED TOPS
Layered tops are super stylish & handy to wear under sweaters, light jackets & coats. I love how firm fitting they are and they keep me super warm in the winter. I normally bring a few as they are lightweight and don't take up much space in your bag. Again you can mix and match them with your outfits, I like to pack 2x neutrals like a black and white & then 1x stripe or patterned.
THERMAL LAYERS
When it comes to those super cold climates sometimes just wearing your pants and sweaters isn't enough. This is when thermals become your best friend! I wore thermals throughout my entire trip to Canada and they kept me so warm and not to mention super comfy. I would wear these under my jeans/pants and under my sweaters and coats.
WINTER BOOTS
Boots are my favorite part of winter as you can really make any outfit pop with your shoes. Again depending on your destination I would normally pack 2x pairs of boots, one a little dressy but comfortable like some ankle booties and one sturdy pair that hold up well in the rain & snow.
One tip I do recommend when buying new winter boots is to do your research. When it comes to buying good quality boots you really want them to hold up in strong winter climates. Trust me, there is nothing worse than having cold wet, uncomfortable feet for your entire trip. (Iv'e been there).
ACCESSORIES
Now for the fun part! Packing your accessories. I like to bring one set of gloves that go with everything. 2x fun blanket scarfs for a pop of color and 2x hats. There are so many ways you can make an outfit look stylish but still keep warm by mixing up your accessories. Also remember to throw in a few pairs of wooly socks to keep your feet nice and warm.
